The Gentlemen TV Series 2024 tells the story of the duke “Edward Horniman” who upon reading his father’s final will and testament, realized that he has been unexpectedly bestowed with an estate of 15,000 acres (6000 hectares) and the title of Duke of Halstead. He finds out that Susie Glass has turned the land into a massive weed-growing enterprise. In addition to attempting to keep himself alive and defend his house, he must negotiate a world full of strange, dangerous people with sinister intentions.

The Gentlemen was wildly entertaining. It had everything you could want in a bingeable Netflix series. A compelling plot, attractive and interesting characters, a thrilling crime (or several), family drama, beautiful scenery, drugs, love of money, I could go on and on. It was superbly told and kept me wanting more every episode.

What sets this series apart is its ability to weave multiple subplots seamlessly, all converging towards a satisfying conclusion. The relentless action keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, while the high production value ensures a cinematic experience throughout.

One of the best things aside of the rural English scenery, music and the yellow font prologue announcement is the flashback storytelling by various characters describing what happened to them rather than seeing it in one take continuity.

If you love guy Ritchie films, you’ll be amazed as usual with this show, it has it all – the dialogs, the cuts, the laughs, the english, the extreme fub and one and only Vinnie Jones.

To summarize – If you are a Guy Ritchie fan you’ll have a blast watching the show, even if you aren’t – it’s definitely worth a try.

Uncle Stanley Johnston

Uncle Stanley Johnston is the American millionaire who is revealed to be more of a criminal than an aristocracy in Episode 2. Because beneath his refined exterior, he is a methamphetamine kingpin. Uncle Stan “with T” is really interested in purchasing Bobby Glass’ marijuana company because of his rather shady business dealings. After all, diversity is essential for a strong financial profile.

Thus, Uncle Stan is largely to blame for the issues Eddie and Susie go into during Season 1. The pot that was taken in Episode 3? The issues with distribution in Episode 5 on the Continent? Even the staged boxing battle in Episode 6 that nearly results in Jack’s (Harry Goodwins) death? Everything was planned by Uncle Stan.

In the epilogue, the meth dealer coldly acknowledges all of his deceit, telling Susie that he had to behave in order to show the Glasses that he genuinely cared about their cannabis business. James tells Tudum, “I love the amount he can [say all of that] with literally not a twitch of his face,” expressing his continued admiration for fellow actor Esposito’s sharklike manner as Uncle Stan. It intrigues me, I think.

Eddie & Susie Relationship

It’s challenging to determine if Eddie and Susie are true adversaries, friends, coworkers, or something else entirely. Susie nearly has Eddie’s entire family killed by a Christian criminal gang in the film’s epilogue alone because she believes they have betrayed her. By the end of Episode 8, however, they are partners in a drug gang worth millions of dollars and are looking into each other’s eyes as they discuss a murder in the woods that resembles an execution. James and Scodelario acknowledge their complexity to one another.

Characters

Bringing fun-as-hell characters to life on the screen is definitely Ritchie’s strong point, or one of them. Eddie, Susie, Jimmy, Bobby, and Geoff could all walk away from this and carry their own series. It helps to have such talented actors reading you lines, and it definitely is important for actors to have great material to spin into the roles they help to create.

The show shines with the casting – primarily Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass. Theo James gave his best performance in the White lotus second season and he’s really natural in playing posh, high class society that no wonder people are calling for him being a candidate for new James Bond.

Theo James and Kaya Scodelario lead the story impeccably. Eddie and Susie have this successful tension and awkward synergy in an endless rollercoaster, and Daniel Ings successfully makes us hate and love Freddy as if it was real. Joely Richardson and compassionate character Lady Sabrina balance the story without disappointing. And Vinnie Jones as Geoff is one of my favorite characters. What a man.

Ending Explained

At the end of The Gentlemen TV series, we see Susie’s father tells Eddie and his daughter in the opening part of the show that he is selling the marijuana company. All they need to do is break the news to the right people and get their offers, which include manipulative drug baroness Mercy (Martha Millan), cocky charlatan Sticky Pete (Joshua McGuire), and cunning American millionaire Uncle Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito). Every bid must exceed £150 million and be sent by pigeon before the end of the week.

Eddie and Susie make the decision to rig the transaction in order to destroy their rivals. Stanley is informed that he has won, but in the interim, they utilize a few allies to get his tax documents and have him jailed for evading taxes. Then Pete and Mercy are informed that Pete has prevailed. Because she doesn’t want to disturb her unsavory Colombian business partners, Mercy kills Pete with a hacksaw to take over his winning position. The Duke and the drug heiress are the only contenders left to take over Bobby’s firm after Eddie and Susie have mobster Henry Collins (Max Beesly) destroy Mercy.

Despite their best efforts, Eddie and Suzie ultimately lose the bid to Stanley in Episode 8, “The Gospel According to Bobby Glass.” Eddie is still quite the trickslinger, though. He makes the decision to eliminate each contestant from the race one at a time. Initially, he makes use of his connection to Collins to locate the illicit funds that Stanley has been keeping safe for the transaction with Bobby. Eddie goes after eliminating the remaining contenders by setting them up against one another, having previously turned in the information regarding Stanley’s illicit money to the authorities and placed him in prison. When Spencer is slain by Mercy, Eddie sends Collins to take care of Mercy, leaving just Collins—whom Eddie handles himself—later in the conclusion. He tells Mercy that she might win the bid if Spencer is taken out of the picture.

The conclusion of The Gentlemen presents Eddie and Suzie with an intriguing future in which they must now create and grow Bobby Glass’s business while displacing the majority of their rivals. Glass had been operating a tight ship, obviously, with Eddie and Suzie carrying out his schemes without realizing it. But Guy Ritchie reserves the best twist for last—it turns out that Stanley Johnston landed up in the same opulent prison that Bobby Glass runs. Even though Stanley actively seeks to inherit Bobby’s kingdom, the two never cross paths in Season 1.

Eric TV Mini Series 2024 tells the story of a child who goes missing in the 1980s but that’s just the tip of the ice berg here.

Straight away we are thrust into a broken home, almost child neglect due to a couple of adults so caught up in their crumbling relationship they let their son walk out and walk himself to school after a horrific drunken arguement.

When the son doesn’t return home the stories and themes within are slowly peeled away and we see various topics tackled. Drug and alcohol abuse, mental health – namely schizophrenia/personality disorders, 1980s aids pandemic, child abuse, homophobia and police corruption.

Detective Mike Ledroit, a black gay cop in charge of finding missing people, must conceal his sexuality and love for his partner, a much older man dying of AIDS and he is pressured by a lot of angry frustrated people to find young boys that continue to go missing.

The world-building that Abby Morgan has created is truly phenomenal. When a show runner/director brings you full throttle into a completely different world with some similarities to our world, it’s a winner. She really has captured the roughness and the griminess of the 1980s.

It’s certainly not an easy watch, especially for those who have children. But it is an important one. It’s really about the toxicity of fathers and how that affects their children. About being true to oneself and fight for justice rather than just stand by and ignore everything.

Best of all is the redemption of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character. He is a great actor and his skills are on full display here. His demons drive the series and he is fully able to make every bad decision and awful utterance believable and “true” to his character. Of course he has to reach rock bottom in order to face up to his failings and so he does because of the disappearance of his son.

The imaginary Eric is crucial to this journey and our understanding of it, so although Eric seems a little forced and unnecessary at first, these doubts soon fall away as you buy in to the power of the story that Benedict Cumberbatch is giving us.

The depiction of New York in the 1980’s is also satisfying, in the sense that it feels real and truly dreadful.

Characters

Benedict Cumberbatch should win an Emmy for his portrayal of redemption and overcoming all adversities that he created. Excellent cast and story about the love of family and the relationships, between a father and his son. Watching him slowly fall apart was just heartbreaking, his demons surfacing, self medicating with drugs and alcohol, trying to fight all those inner demons whilst searching for his son – just fantastic work to portray all of this.

The way they showed Eric’s character and the process of making it real were terrific. The way Vincent starts to contact Eric, sees it everywhere in his life, and how it helps him find his son and understand the problem with their relationship is so emotional.

Ending Explained

As the show went on, more details emerged about Edgar’s (Ivan Howe) abduction. It turned out that he had just accompanied Yuusuf (Bamar Kane) into the subterranean tunnels rather than being abducted.

There, Vincent’s fantasy of Eric awakens him, and when he wakes up, he sees Yuusuf and the recognizable Edgar sketches behind him. Vincent is informed by Yuusuf that he knows Edgar from what Edgar has told him, and that Edgar accompanied Yuusuf into the tunnels because he was too afraid to return home.

After Eric confronts Vincent with some hard home facts, the two get into a brawl. Yuusuf eventually forced to leave Vincent since he is running from the police.

Next comes the report of a body discovered and the recovery of Edgar’s red jacket from the remains of a woman, identified as Raya. Edgar is seen straining to force his way out of the manhole cover as Ledroit is breaking the news to Cassie (Gaby Hoffmann).

After his ‘battle’ with Eric, Vincent ultimately comes to and uses the manhole in front of The Lux to exit the tunnels. He observes a large gathering of homeless individuals in Central Park as he moves across the city, demonstrating against the city’s homelessness regulations.

However, Vincent finds his way to the Good Day Sunshine set, where he gets Eric’s full body costume and wears it while strolling through the park.

Gaby notices Eric on stage when she is in the park as well. Inside the disguise, Vincent is attempting to attract everyone’s attention and get captured on camera for the news. He takes advantage of the chance to talk to Edgar face-to-face, who is currently enjoying pancakes in a diner.

After apologizing for his actions, Vincent tells Edgar that they ought to race one another home. Both of them succeed, and Cassie joins Vincent and Edgar outside their building in tears.
